A perfect sound system
03-09-2008
Steinway Lyngdorf, made headlines last year when it set new standards in the global audio industry by launching the world's first integrated, fully digital music system called Model D.

Now the company has launched Model C, which has the same DNA as Model D. But it further exemplifies Steinway Lyngdorf's fusion of master craftsmanship, perfected technology and design artistry.

This is hardly surprising given the pedigree of the company – a collaboration between Steinway & Sons, makers of the world's finest pianos, and Peter Lyngdorf, Europe's pre-eminent audio manufacturer.

Priced at a little over Dh544,000, the sleekly-built Model C Music System features two floor-standing dipole speakers and twin-boundary woofers, as well as the same iconic, pedestal head-unit as presented along with the signature Model D Music System.

However, it is smaller than Model D and can be customised to suit the interiors of clients' homes or offices. Speaking to Emirates Business, Peter Lyngdorf, founder of Steinway Lyngdorf, said: "We understood our customers' needs… both individuals and commercial establishments appreciated a music system that would offer the same exceptional sound quality as Model D Music System, yet one that would be ideal for a more intimate and compact listening space.

"In specific cases, existing owners of our Model D Music System also expressed their desire to acquire additional systems that encapsulate the DNA of Model D but one that would fit perfectly into a different living space, such as their bedrooms or more intimately designed dining rooms."

"Model C is created to fulfil precisely this need while adhering to all our uncompromising core values," he said.

Peter Lyngdorf's quest for the perfect music system started at the age of 11 when he bought his first tape recorder.

"When I heard the first Beatles hits on my tape recorder, I was so disappointed with the in-built speakers that I started modifying the cabinet to reduce the resonances. Since then, I have been on a quest to realise my dream, which is to have the perfect music systems without any compromise," Lyngdorf said.

Led by Lyngdorf's compelling vision, a team of international talents including designers and engineers came together to realise the vision over a period of two years – and the result was Model D.

Now the same team has launched Model C, which is precision-built and hand-assembled as a completely integrated music system with all the components carefully selected and designed from the outset.

It offers all the core technologies that deliver the outstanding musical quality of Steinway Lyngdorf's products, including RoomPerfect and the fully digital amplification technology.

Lyngdorf said: "RoomPerfect is the first room correction system to take the three-dimensional properties of the room into account.
"As RoomPerfect is based on several random measurements in addition to the focused measurement, it is able to understand the exact nature of the different phenomena at lower frequencies. Therefore, it is possible to use the exact measurement from the listening position without applying any smoothing to the measurement. This means that the filter can be applied with greater accuracy without any risk of undesirable side effects."

"An effect of RoomPerfect is also that the sound quality throughout the whole listening room will improve. If you walk through the room with RoomPerfect engaged, you will notice a much more uniform sound quality than can be achieved with other systems and, in particular, a more uniform sound than without correction. For the first time it is possible to achieve consistent results for different acoustical environments," he said.

Designed to cater to more intimate, compact listening spaces, Model C Music System offers studio quality for all musical genres and is particularly ideal for lovers of jazz, blues and R&B with strong bass sounds enhanced by the twin boundary woofers.
Like Model D music system, it takes approximately eight weeks to assemble a single Model C Music System. The new music System is presented in elegant, classic black lacquer as well as a broad range of customised wood or coloured lacquer finishes to reflect its customer's personal taste and home décor styles.
