Product review: LG KF600
Saturday, July 19, 2008

Fans of the ridiculously popular LG Chocolate phone will have something to celebrate when they get their hands on the LG KF600, which comes with a host of trendy features that could probably give the competition some sleepless nights.

The KF600's dimensions are the first thing that stands out, allowing for a comfortable grip without being too bulky. The size will certainly appeal to those who spend the better part of their day hunting for their ringing phones in the deep recesses of their bags.

But the dual display LCD screen is probably its most obvious USP. The lower panel works as a touch sensitive pad – in full colour – that changes with the context in which the phone is used. For example, when not in use, the InteractPad works as a simple shortcut menu; but when playing games, the touchscreen turns into a control module.

It can be increasingly frustrating though, when you realise the top panel of the screen is not touch sensitive. But as a slider, the KF600 is smooth to the touch, which earns it a few extra brownie points when compared to the flip-phones that offer similar features; however, its rather flat keypad will probably have those with fat fingers struggling just a tad when attempting to hit the buttons.

The phone comes packed with your usual specifications: A 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 and an office document viewer. What gives it an extra zing are the Keith Haring graffiti themed graphics that can completely transform the look and feel of your phone.

Amongst its many other features, the zoom-in option in the photo viewer works quite well, but surprisingly we can't do the same when browsing the internet. And gamers should hit the websites first thing, because the pre-installed ones would probably lose appeal with anyone over seven years.

The audio quality on the FM radio left no room for complaints, but it's the MP3 player that really had us singing the phone's praises. You can also create playlists, shuffle songs and put your favourite track on repeat as many times as you wish.

At the risk of sounding sexist, the LG KF600 has one other feature that comes quite handy with the ladies when heading for a night out on the town. The display's mirror finish works as a great substitute to the real thing, so you can whip out your phone when touching-up that gloss.
