Abu
Dhabi International airport handled more than
6.67 million passengers in the first nine months
of the year, recording a 33 per cent increase in
its traveller numbers over the same period last
year, according to the Abu Dhabi Airport Company
(ADAC).
The third quarter of 2008 alone showed positive
signs over the same period last year with
passenger traffic increasing by 24.1 per cent,
cargo up 13.6 per cent and aircraft movements
showing a steady 13 per cent improvement. Etihad
Airways, which expanded its network over the
past 12 months, was the main contributor to
growth at Abu Dhabi International Airport, ADAC
said yesterday in a statement.
In addition, to Etihad's expansion, seven new
airlines have also commenced operations from the
capita's airport since the beginning of the
year.
"The phased opening of our new Terminal 3 and
soft-launch of the second runway are just two
examples of new facilities we have introduced
this month," said Rudy Vercelli, Chief Executive
Officer of ADAC. |
